2014-2015 Season

This season the orchestra will offer a wide variety of concerts, featuring classic masterpieces, the music of our time, and familiar holiday tunes. We will continue our tradition of collaboration with and celebration of the best our area has to offer. Following the lead from prior seasons, when the focus was on the composers from the Hudson Valley, this season we turn our focus towards musicians in and from the area. Our goal is to continue to shine light on the outstanding, world-class artistic environment of the Hudson River Valley.

Program I, “From Paris with Love“, will feature treasured works by Satie, Debussy, and Faure, alongside a rarely performed symphony by Charles Gounod. The orchestra is thrilled to present the cellist Lillia Keyes, a Poughkeepsie native who now lives and works as a professional soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player in Germany. (Performance: October 12, 2014, at the Woodstock Playhouse).

“Meet ‘N Greet” to follow immediately after the concert at 7pm! Appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Located at the Creekside Grille @ Woodstock Golf Club, across the street from the Woodstock Playhouse. Reservations are required – please call 845-266-3517 or email wchorchestra@aol.com. $15 per person. Come and meet Lillia Keyes, our cello soloist, Nathan Madsen our conductor, orchestra and members of the Board of Directors. A good time and good food for one and all!

Program II will be our “Holiday Pops!” concert. This gives us an opportunity to perform at Ulster Community College’s Quimby Theater, where we will be joined by two choirs: the first from UCCC, led by Janet Gehres, and the second from Rondout High School, led by Barbara Wild. This concert gives us all a chance to relax and welcome the Holiday season! (Performance: December 13, 2014, at Quimby Theater).

Program III, “Dramatic Collaborations“, we will shine the spotlight on our own members, who will be the featured soloists in Bach’s Brandenburg Concert #5 as well as the East Coast premiere of Jennifer Jolley’s Spielzeug Straßenbahn. It wouldn’t be a WCO season without a premiere of some kind or another! (Performance: March 15, 2015, at the Woodstock Playhouse).

Program IV, “Memorial Day Tribute“, gives us an opportunity to give back to our community, with a fundraising event for the Wounded Warriors and UCCC Veteras Organizations. Just as the musicians of the WCO are your friends, neighbors, and teachers, so too are our veterans found in every facet of our diverse community. (Two Performances: May 22nd & 23rd, 2015, at Quimby Theater).

Please join us for an exciting and memorable season!

We look forward to sharing music with you!
