The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra celebrates Valentine’s Day with a concert of Romantic Music on Sunday, February 14 at 3 pm at SUNY Ulster in Quimby Theater, the site of the orchestra’s Christmas 2014 and Veteran’s Day 2015 concerts.
Music Director Nathan Madsen has crafted a special program showcasing two wonderful soloists: soprano Kimberly Kahan returns (she sang several of Copland’s wonderful “Old American Songs” in May 2015) to once again captivate with Rachmaninoff’s eternally popular “Vocalise” and pianist Hiroko Sakurazwa plays Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 — the first time the WCO performs a piano concerto. The program also includes the Adagio from “Spartacus” by Aram Katchaturian, and the dazzling “Romeo & Juliet” Fantasy-Overture by Tchaikovsky.
Roses will be on sale, courtesy of Stone Ridge’s Floral Poetry — and there will be a raffle for the privilege of sitting up close to the stage in a love seat! General admission to this concert is $20, $18 for seniors, and students and children (accompanied by an adult) are free.
