The upcoming 2015/2016 season of four programs once again offers the WCO’s familiar variety of concerts, including some new themes (Halloween and Romance) and soloists (Hiroko Sakurazawa), as well as returning ones (Jay & Molly and Americana). Music Director Nathan Madsen again presents audiences with a chance to connect with the serious side of classical orchestral music — he calls those programs “Masterwork Concerts” — as well as with the lighter side, an ideal entry point for new ears for orchestral music.
The WCO looks forward to growing its audience in the southern part of Ulster County through its concerts presented at SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge; and we continue to enjoy our wonderful home base at the Woodstock Playhouse in the town of Woodstock.
The season begins on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 pm at the Woodstock Playhouse with a special Halloween “Pops” concert, with performers & audience in costume!
The next concert is on Saturday, January 9th at 7:30 pm: a program called “Winter Chill” again at the Woodstock Playhouse with music by Grieg, Vivaldi and Sibelius
The season continues with a concert of “Music for Romance” on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14 at 3 pm in Quimby Theater at SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge, featuring piano soloist Hiroko Sakurazawa in a concerto by Mozart
And the season concludes at Quimby Theater on Sunday, May 22 at 3 pm with a concert celebrating American music and featuring as guest soloists & guest composers the popular “roots/Americana” duo of Jay Ungar & Molly Mason
